Theresa Cheek and Chinoiserie

Through blogging I have had the delightful experience of "meeting" decorative artist and fellow blogger Theresa Cheek. Theresa resides in Texas, but travels all over creating her incredible murals, gilding, and trompe l'oeil. Her blog Art's the Answer! covers a wide array of design subjects-she even did a great post on Chinoiserie here. The first four photos are of a plaster ceiling Theresa painted using designs from the room like the Chinoiserie toile fabric. The first question on the recent House Beautiful color personality quiz was what color is the first you see every morning. I wish this were my answer! The last three photos are of a powder room Theresa painted with incredible Chinoiserie walls. Isn't it wonderful! And yes, you can buy black toilet paper. I even did a post on it here. These are just a sampling of her talent focusing on some Chinoiserie projects. For other examples of her work or to contact Theresa, please visit her blog.

  4. Home Before Dark-I was just at the Freer the other day taking in all the beauty of the Peacock Room and thinking what an opportunity people miss with their walls and ceilings, especially all white rooms which I detest. Tony Duquette called it the refrigerator door syndrome. I am amazed at the way excellent decorative artists like Theresa can transform a room into something so transcendent.
