Hollywood Chinoiserie

Averill of Odi et Amo was so sweet to let me know about this great duvet set from Bliss Living that is so perfect for Chinoiserie Chic. Called West Lake, it is inspired by east China's water wonderland. Here traditional blue and white toile meet stunning scale with the lake's motifs in brilliant blues. I think it is chaneling interior designer Mary McDonald with her glam Hollywood version of Chinoiserie and her love of blue and white and stripes. I like the entire room with its yellow foo dogs, blue garden stool, striped shams, and Lucite side table. Very chic. Pictured below are two stunning Mary McDonald blue and white rooms from Domino Magazine.

  1. You're so right! That bedding is really reminiscient of Mary McDonald's work; I hadn't made the connection, but it is so reminiscient of all the blue she uses (as well as that Chinoiserie-inspired brown & white guest bedroom with that fabulous pagoda headboard!).

  2. That bedspread is just incredible - toile writ large. I've been trying to decide on a color scheme for a new apartment and have a bunch of blue and white things - maybe this is the direction I should take in the bedroom.

  3. Averill-You're right, and of course I'll be featuring that Mary McDonald bedroom with the pagoda headboard. Thanks again.
